The Hangar Day 6, Part Deux

On the way home from Metz, we stopped in Luxembourg for a quick visit to the American Cemetery Memorial. This cemetery is reminiscent of the ones in Normandy and Arlington. There is an American part and a German part. Thousands of men were killed in the attempt to take Germany.

These are the military kids that were with us today. We are proud of them, so young and very dedicated.

It is very quiet and the memorials are beautiful. It is touching just to be in that space and think about the young men who were sacrificed for us and for the world.

The crosses and stars of David are simple.

General George Patton is buried there. It is interesting that he was a 4 star general and yet his grave marking is exactly the same as the privates buried there. He wanted to be buried with his men.

Of course, the 10 minutes we were out of the car, it was downpouring rain.

We all pitched in for some last day projects and cleaning. Home tomorrow!

The Hangar Day 5

Today was our day off. Yippee! The rooms were so close to being done that we felt good heading out for sightseeing. We drove over to the Rhein River and hopped a water shuttle to the other side of the river to Rudesheim.

First priority, getting Euros from the bank. Second priority, eating bratwurst. The Germans do not have it figured out, it seems.

Yes, we added to the local economy as best we could. Here we are on the boat that will take us cruising the Rhein. We rode for about two hours from Rudesheim to Sankt Goar.

We had sunshine. We had clouds. We had liquid sunshine. And a bit of thunder and lightening.
Every little village had a gorgeous church.

And we saw castles, castles and more castles.

When we landed at Sankt Goar, we had apple strudel. What good is a trip to Germany without apple strudel???

Except Tami. She had a bratwurst. It was scored in a crisscross pattern and quite lovely.

After our day off, we came back to The Hangar to beautify the kid's room. The final touches are always the best part!

The Hangar Day 4.5

Yesterday, the girls had a special treat at lunchtime. Our new friend Priscilla arranged for them to get on the AFBase.

Priscilla. She already has a special place in our hearts and God is prompting us to pray for her. She can lift more weight while squatting than the boys in her squadron. That keeps them from messing with her too much. That is not the reason we are praying for her. Just like in Top Gun, each member of the squadron has a nickname. The boys have given her the name Altoids. Because she is curiously strong.

Priscilla got clearance for the girls to not only see her plane but to get in it. That just does not happen! What an amazing opportunity for the girls.

The Hangar Day 4

We had a birthday today. Bridget turned **. So, we went out to dinner.

After our little birthday party, we sat down to make spare tire bracelets. Oh, the concentration.

There were stories, some singing, and lots of bead stringing.

We spent the afternoon beautifying our bedroom. We have decided to name it the God Be in My Head Room. Sheila and Roger see it together for the first time after it was finished.

The Hangar Day 3

Dawn made 2347363 pillows today. Some for each room. Very pretty.

She sat at the sewing machine for six hours working on pillows and curtains.

Sheila cooked all day. She made three amazing salads. They were gone in minutes.

It was so fun to see that nobody had trouble connecting and communicating.

Priscilla is a fighter pilot. She flies an A10. How awesome is that?

This group of women caught on to stringing and crimping faster than any other group we have had. They were smart!

These two girls came straight from work at the child care center.

It was a great, meeting the women we have been praying for all these weeks. They were delightful!
